The First 24 Hours
Stop where you are. Get somewhere safe. That might mean going home, calling a friend to pick you up, or stepping away from the people and place tied to the use. Safety comes first. Everything else can wait a few minutes.
Tell one person you trust. A partner, a friend, a family member, someone who will pick up. Secrecy is what turns a single lapse into a longer slide. Saying it out loud takes away its power. You do not have to explain it perfectly. Just say what happened and that you need support.
There is a physical risk we want you to know about. When you stop using, your tolerance drops fast. If you go back to the dose you used before, that same amount can now be dangerous. Overdose risk is real in these first hours. Please do not use again to steady yourself.
Reach out to a counselor, sponsor, or treatment program today. Not next week. Same day. A short conversation now can change the direction of the next few days. We would rather hear from you early than have you wait until things feel worse.
One lapse does not have to become a full relapse. That outcome is not fixed. You caught it. Now we work through the next step together.
