Planning: Who, Where, and When
Start with the guest list. Pick three to six people the person loves and respects. These are the voices that carry weight. A parent, a sibling, a close friend, an old coach. Leave out anyone with an old grudge or a short fuse. This is not the place to settle scores.
We keep the group small on purpose. Too many people feels like an ambush. The right few feels like family showing up.
Next, choose the setting. A private, neutral space works best. Someone's living room. A quiet office. Somewhere the person feels safe and no strangers can wander in. Avoid restaurants and public places. Privacy protects everyone's dignity.
Then think about timing. Pick a moment when the person is most likely to be sober and rested. Mornings often work well. Avoid holidays, birthdays, and days already loaded with stress.
Here is the part people skip. Arrange the treatment placement before the intervention, not after. When someone says yes, that yes needs somewhere to land right away. A packed bag. A confirmed bed. A ride ready to go.
We can help you handle that piece in advance. Call us first, and we will have a plan in place. That way, the moment they agree, there is no waiting, no second-guessing, no time to change their mind.
